Perennial Garden

Dynamic – Diverse – Divine

Perennial collections from Rohsler’s offer many “garden moments” throughout the year. In fact, many of Rohsler’s perennials are grown on site by horticulturists Eric Rohsler and Bill Kolvek, who treat each plant with meticulous care.

Bill and Eric encourage local gardeners to experiment with diverse perennials to infuse their landscapes with seasonal interest and texture, and ensure successive blooms.

By definition, perennials are long-lived plants that flower year after year – but options extend well beyond Shasta Daisies and Coreopsis. Perennials also include Peonies, Daylilies, Ornamental Grasses, Ferns, Hosta, and even Asparagus! Lavender, Agastache, and Monarda are also perennials.

Bulbs are the icing on the cake, adding yet another layer of interest to the perennial garden. Speciosa Tulips, Daffodils, Snowdrops, Crocuses, Winter Aconite, and Woodland Hyacinths all grow well in our area and are the first indicators that Mother Nature has flipped the switch to usher in springtime.

Some perennials love shade  and others prefer full sun. Drought-tolerant perennials such as Stonecrop, Hens and Chicks, Missouri Evening Primrose, and selected grasses like Blue OatGrass (Helictotrichon semperviren) are perfect for your xeriscape.

Perennial Garden

In the perennial garden, the show begins in spring with Bleeding Heart, Dianthus, Columbine, Virginia Bluebells, Mountain Pinks, and Candytuft among others.

Roses steal the show in summer along with summer classics such as Echinacea, Cutting Phlox, Hibiscus, and Catmint. Autumn brings out the best in Japanese Anemones, Asters, several species of Ornamental Grasses, Joe-Pye Weed, Hardy Ageratum, Rudbeckia, Stonecrop (try “Autumn Joy”), and Sweet Autumn Clematis.

When most of the garden is experiencing winter down-time, hellebores will bloom like wild – even if there is snow on the ground.

In addition to creating desirable habitat for native animals and pollinators, perennials add to your home’s value and provide an enjoyable habitat for you!
