In Praise of Fathers

What’s in the Garden:

Our Dads work hard for us, and deserve special recognition for their constant love, care, and support. Spruce up your yard for Dad’s big day (Father’s Day — Sunday, June 19).

Of course, Dad needs a comfortable place to sit. Offer him one of our Adirondack chairs or outdoor rockers. Our ADK chairs are available in Eucalyptus, Western Cedar, Teak, and maintenance-free Poly. A colorful Hydrangea, a blooming shrub like Buddleia, or one of our berry plants will also make a great addition to Dad’s garden. We have a large assortment of plants for your traditional berry patch, container, or “edible” landscape.

Once you’ve added the color, you’ll need some texture. Our Stachys varieties will do the trick. Lambs’ Ears, with its soft-as-silk leaves and bright flowers, is a favored variety.

Does your Dad enjoy watching the birds? Present him with one of our well-made bird feeders, and complete the gift with seed and suet from our garden center. During the summer months, birds are busy raising their young. Your Dad may even have the pleasure of watching adult birds leading their chicks straight to his feeder.

For something extra special, add a birdbath. When the heat of the season settles in, birds need a reliable source of fresh, clean water. You may attract Catbirds, Northern Cardinals, Blue Jays, Black-capped Chickadees, American Goldfinches, Tufted Titmice…and many other captivating species.
