Join Us For An Exciting Trip To Old Westbury Gardens & Planting Fields Arboretum

This field trip to two gems on Long Island will thrill your inner horticultural spirit! Join us on Wednesday, June 21st.

Our first stop of the day is to Old Westbury Gardens, one of the remaining Gold Coast Mansions of days gone by. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and the former home of John and Margarita Phipps and four children, this Charles II-style mansion was built in 1906 and is nestled amid 200 acres of formal gardens, landscaped grounds, woodlands, ponds and lakes. We will have a tour of both the house and gardens; we will enjoy our brown-bag picnic lunch on the grounds.

Planting Fields Arboretum and Coe Hall, a Tudor Revival mansion, is the former estate of the W.R. Coe family. Also on the National Register, this property has “400 acres of rolling lawns, gardens, woodlands and nature walks.” Coe enlisted the Olmsted landscape firm to help design the gardens. We will tour the gardens only at Planting Fields.

Our group will meet at Graydon Pool Parking Lot (North) at the corner of Linwood Avenue and Northern Parkway in Ridgewood between 8:00 and 8:30. Coffee and donuts will be available. The bus will depart promptly at 8:30 a.m. Plan to return to Ridgewood between 5 and 5:30 p.m.

Plan to bring a picnic lunch. This trip is rain or shine. There is a cafe on site at Old Westbury should you care to purchase lunch on your own.

Please wear comfortable shoes. Bring a friend! The $59 fee includes bus transportation, tip for the driver and tour and admissions to both locations.

Wednesday, June 21 from 8 a.m. till 5 – 5:30 p.m. for the return. Register early. Seats fill quickly. Deadline for registration is Sunday, June 18th.

Refund Policy: If conditions exist beyond our control, we reserve the right to cancel. Patrons cannot cancel less than two days before the trip and expect a full refund. If we have a wait list and can fill that person’s spot, only then will the money be refunded.
