Spotlight on Native Roots

One of the most impactful parts of the evening was the introduction to the Native Roots program. These plants are hybrids of native species, developed to combine ecological benefits with enhanced garden performance.

Native Roots varieties help bridge the gap between natural ecosystems and home gardens, making it easier for gardeners to support pollinators like bees and butterflies while still achieving exceptional visual impact.

Laura also shared insights from a Mt. Cuba Center study on echinacea, which found that performance differences between straight species and cultivated varieties were minimal—reassuring gardeners that they can confidently incorporate improved cultivars while still supporting pollinator health.
